Heroes

August 14, 2009

On a daily basis, there's usually a dozen reasons for me to get caught up in things that are completely out of my control. And, if I'm really honest with myself, the notion of "control" is a fleeting attempt at manipulating an environment that really could care less about my schedule, desires or gratifying my ego through external means. I need reminders to stay grounded and I need people in my life who inspire me to gather the courage to change what I can...and to humbly accept outcomes that don't fit with my plan.

If we look around...and pay attention...there are heroes walking among us. These people tend to set the bar a little higher than the rest of us and they quietly manage life's challenges with style, dignity and grace. It's nice having bona fide examples of people who have actually acted on those thoughts of, "I don't have to do this anymore" or, in some cases, "I can do this differently". When I first started playing golf, it was suggested to me that if I wanted to play better golf...play with better players; I'm sure the same is true for everything else.

One of those people is Joel Lamoureux. While his golf game, I'm sure, needs a little work...I watch, and I learn, as he tackles life's more meaningful challenges.

Joel's story is HERE.
